Indian Navy Day was first celebrated in 1971 to celebrate the victory in war against Pakistan. Responding to the invasion of Pakistan in 1971, the Indian Navy launched 'Operation Trident'. Under this, the Navy attacked the Karachi Navy port of Pakistan. Many of its ships and oil tankers were destroyed. Every year Navy Day is celebrated on different themes. The theme of this year was- war ready, reliable and structured. The 2019 theme was Silent, Strong and Swift.
